Mr. Sexton practices in all areas of patent law and in various technical areas including public key infrastructure systems (PKI), signals in noise, statistics, speech coding, image coding, multiple access systems, forward error correction coding and decoding, circuits, displays and software.

Patent experience includes a mix of application drafting, office actions, interviews, appeals and Inter-Partes Review petitions and patent owner responses, and substantial work in analyzing patent portfolios with respect to standard essential patents.

With a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, Mr. Sexton has twenty years of experience in the cell phone industry (spanning Motorola, Nokia, and Research in Motion). Mr. Sexton is also named as inventor on more than 20 patents and is an author or co-author on 10 IEEE conference papers.

Engineering projects during engineering career include chip design, radio propagation measurements, object oriented program coding, assembly level coding, cellular system simulation, radio modem simulation (particularly forward error correction coding), field study of control signaling performance, study of packet data performance in radio systems, clock-realignment in twisted-pair transmission line, coaxial cable transmission line analysis, chip timing recovery and carrier frequency recovery of radio signals, coherent receiver demodulator design, time alignment of downlink radio signals, queuing study in packet radio, header compression, mutual information of noisy signals in radio systems, and decoding based on belief propagation in radio systems.
